Patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation are at high risk of stroke. Preventing stroke is clinically and economically vital because of the significant likelihood of death or serious lifelong chronic conditions as well as high ongoing healthcare costs. This position paper is based on currently available literature and opinions on the use of oral anticoagulants and the WATCHMAN device to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation.
